I really need to sort out some aspects of this blog.
I really should spend some time with its theme. It is a bit blue… (although in keeping with my workplace where blue is a definite theme, I think its our MD’s favourite colour or something - its not very LibDem though, then again it was the nicest ready made theme I could find and web design is not my strong point…).

I should also rationalise the categories, although how to do this I don’t know.

I also keep on meaning to make posts on non-politics, but they generally fail - perhaps I should write some book reviews or music reviews. Or technology reviews if I ever get my hands on any new gadgets (other than the copious amount of test mobile phones we have at work - all of which are spangly new do everything except make phonecalls and handle SMS well pieces of crap).

Quite when this will get done I don’t know however. My unread list of unread posts is approaching 2000 with not much time at work and using the TV as a monitor at home its a struggle to keep up with current posts and threads let alone reducing the number… (apologies to those whose posts I havn’t got round to reading, I havn’t been able to digest the more comprehensive (and interesting) ones yet…)

At some point this will happen though.

Categorising links

January 9th, 2007 tristan Posted in admin, liberalism, libertarianism No Comments »

I find it difficult to categorise links, indeed categorising anything is difficult, its bound to upset someone (try asking a group of jazz lovers ‘What is Jazz?’ and you’ll start an argument which will go on forever… nobody can quite agree what is and isn’t jazz).

So, I have currently gone with a large category covering Liberals, Libertarians and LibDems. This covers a very wide area, but all with a general theme - Liberty (well, for the most part, a few LibDems aren’t concerned with Liberty, but they’re a small minority and I can’t think of any blogs to link to by such people).
This does have the side effect of putting euro-nihilists in with pro-europeans and classic liberals in with new liberals and even Guido in with the rest of us (but he describes himself as a Libertarian and I agree with him on that - he’s certainly no Tory).

I think this categorisation is right as I am not concerned with right/left but with liberty and freedom. This transcends the modern right/left divide. It is also subjective, if I think you’re a liberal then you’ll be in there, if you don’t like it feel free to complain :-p

Other possible categories will be Socialists (if I ever find any socialist blogs worth reading which don’t send me into fits of apoplexy) and various non-political sections, but they will come (or not) as I get round to it.

Anyone feeling left out by not being on my list, speak up and I’ll add you (if you reciprocate of course :) )

I’m redirecting the old feed locations to the new one.

I hope it works, shout at me if you have  any problems…

Old blog - new blog

January 3rd, 2007 tristan Posted in admin No Comments »

My old blog has now been moved to http://www.eridu.org.uk/blogger/ but through the magic of mod_rewrite most is still accessable from the old URLs.

There may be some teething problems, please let me know.

In the mean time, I should now be able to receive comments through email, so hopefully I’ll be able to enter into more conversation and respond to points made in comments more readily.

A new year, a new blog

January 3rd, 2007 tristan Posted in admin No Comments »

Having given in to my geeky side (you mean there’s another side? I hear you asking) I’ve set up a WordPress blog.

This will eventually become my main blog, supplanting the Blogger blog Liberal Alone.

In the meantime, everything here is fluid. Name, design, even posts…
