My Top UK Political Blogs

Upon compiling this I discovered that several of my favourite blogs have disappeared (I hadn’t noticed largely due to subscribing to the whole libdemblogs feed). Very sad. I hope that they return soon. I’ve also left off people who haven’t blogged in a month or so.

Anyway, my top twenty in alphabetical order-

Andy Mayer – http://andymayer.blogspot.com/ – no holds barred when attacking our political opponents. Also very good when he writes the occasional more philosophical piece. An all round good read.
Bishop Hill – http://bishophill.squarespace.com/blog/ – Firm on his liberal beliefs.
Chase Me, Ladies, I’m In The Cavalry http://chasemeladies.blogspot.com/ – Hilarious
Cicero – http://cicerossongs.blogspot.com/ – Firm liberal with interesting insights. Especially on Russia and Eastern Europe.
Globalisation Institute – http://www.globalisation.eu/blog/ – Liberal economics think tank making the move to Brussels. Big fans of Richard Cobden.
7Guido Fawkes – http://www.order-order.com/ – Try not to take him too seriously…
Home Office Watch – http://www.homeofficewatch.com/ – LibDem Home Affairs Team keeping an eye on the Home Office etc. I suspect they’re a bit weighed under…
Jock Coats – http://www.jockcoats.org.uk/ – Very intelligent discussion. Big fan of LVT.
Liberal Burblings – http://paulwalter.blogspot.com/ – Interesting, intelligent and poses me with some questions :)
Liberal Bureaucracy – http://liberalbureaucracy.blogspot.com/ – Some very good insights into the workings of the party and a generally good read
Liberal England – http://liberalengland.blogspot.com/ – A classic of blogging. Interesting, witty and amusing.
Liberal Legend II – http://www.liberallegend2.blogspot.com/ – A welcome return to blogging. Keeps us up to date with events in China as well as general liberal views.
Love and Liberty – http://loveandliberty.blogspot.com/ – Very interesting and well written – if a little long winded ;) Oh and lots of Dr. Who
Millenium Elephant – http://millenniumelephant.blogspot.com/ – A very clever little elephant who sees things us humans don’t often see.
Political Betting – http://politicalbetting.com/ – Has a good look at polls and elections. Interesting even for those of us who don’t bet.
Quaequam Blog – http://www.theliberati.net/quaequamblog/ – Still a good read after the several years I’ve been reading it. Hard hitting, witty and interesting.
Richard Allan – http://www.richardallan.org.uk/ – Sporadic blogging, but interesting when posts are made. A focus on technology and politics – he’s a great loss to Parliament as one of the few politicians who understood technology.
Samizdata – http://www.samizdata.net/blog/ – Some very good libertarian posts, although some of the commenters are a little swivel-eyed and nationalistic. Some of the contributors are excellent.
Stephen Tall – http://oxfordliberal.blogspot.com/ – Well written, informative, interesting and liberal. What more could you want from a blogger?
Tim Worstall – http://timworstall.typepad.com/timworstall/ – Prolific blogger on economics and politics. Liberal to the core, although he is a euronihilist.

Honourable mentions of blogs past:
Liberal Polemic – now sadly gone.
Forceful and Moderate – http://forcefulandmoderate.blogspot.com/ – No recent postings, was very good when it was active.
Agent Musco – All gone
Pigeon Post – Now a Splogger blog
Liberal Review – Seems to be inactive now

  1. Where has Liberal Polemic disappeared to?

  2. A month is a bit short time to know whether somebody has stopped blogging. For instance Charles Anglin, another blogging libertarian Lib Dem, seems to post only once in a month. I think that if somebody hasn’t posted for three months, it is reasonable to assume, that the blog is inactive.

  3. I am honoured to be on the list of such a discerning fellow. (#)

  4. Tom Papworth, who writes Liberal Polemic, has his hands full at the moment fighting a by-election in Crystal Palace Ward, Bromley Borough. This might explain his lack of blogging.

Thank you Tristan for such a high ranking!

  5. Toby/Julian: If Tom is actually fighting the seat then that might explain the removal of his blog. Hopefully normal service shall then be resumed…

gg: I did use the LibDem blogs feed as my basis which I think has a cutoff of 3 months. Charles Anglin’s blog now you mention it is one I recall liking, but its slow rate of posts means I forget about it…

  6. I’m merely hiding my light under a bushell until the hawks pass on.

However, they are apparently trying to get the local paper to run a story about something unkind I might have said about Labour activists. Apparently, the Labour candidate is going to write a letter to me expressing how hurt he is that I was mean.

Sounds like they’ve nothing to say about the area or people’s concerns, so they’re attacking me personally.

Ah, the joys of democratic politics!
