Happy Independence Day
Today marks the anniversary of the issuing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress, one of the greatest events in the history of liberalism.
It is sad to think that the signatories to the Declaration would be horrified to see the abuses of executive power and the loss of independence by the states under the federal government. Even the writ of habeas corpus is under threat, the fundamental right in the Bill of Rights.
In amongst the celebration I hope our American friends can look to see how things have gone wrong and take measures to correct that before the problems get worse.
I hope that the ideals of individual freedom and freedom from government oppression and action can be restored in the US and they can once again shine out clearly as a beacon of freedom.
