Blogwars continued - The Revenge of the Sith?
Wow, I didn’t realise that there was such a load of vitriol being spouted by members of the left-wing and Labour blogging community. Tim Ireland leads the charge with his usual blog and what he terms Guido Fawkes 2.0.
The latest spat is along with Tom Watson MP and Pickled Politics, Tim Ireland has made allegations claiming Guido Fawkes made a deal with the BNP whilst a student for political advantage
I believe this information was garnered from a Guardian story back in the 1980s.
Guido has responded by claiming there was a full retraction of the story and apparently by threatening legal action (against what is a serious allegation, especially towards a libertarian), hence the original posts have been removed (so my account is based upon piecing together from various places).
Frankly, I’m getting rather tired of all this. At least some of it is down to Guido and Iain’s exposure of the Smith Institute’s shady dealings with Number 11. The rest seems to be due to the dominance they have in the blogsphere.
The funny thing is that Guido is so consistently attacked as a Tory, yet he is as vitriolic against all parties, he sees all politicians as corrupt and self serving. True, Labour is in power, so they bear the brunt, but I’m sure the whatever party in power will be attacked (if he doesn’t then I shall be sorely disappointed).
It is somewhat amusing to see leftist bloggers losing it like this, but come on guys, this is so childish. Ad Hominem attacks are not edifying, debate with them over facts and with reason.

Guido is attacked as a Tory, because he is a Tory.

Ummm, there’s proof there?
He went to school… such a Tory thing to do.
He supported UNITA - against the MPLA - so he’s an anti-Marxist.
Nothing Tory there.
I know he was a member of the Tory student organisation, but he is no Tory today (and he was a libertarian back then, so hardly a typical Tory even then)
Unless you mean libertarians and anarcho capitalists are Tories… but then are you calling me a Tory? Are you a Communist because you believe in a greater role for the state than I do? I don’t think so.
Your political compass is slightly off there. If anything he’s closer to the radical Whiggs and Radical Liberals than the Tories.

So thats what it was all about, if I was not to know better, I might think that their has been a concerted campaign against the blogosphere over the last few days. The revenge of the Sith and clunking great fist. Sign of things to come.

Hold on, how can you claim that he is non-partisan? The guff about the Smith Institute is a case in point: they may well have been fudging their charitable status, but then so do Tory think tanks. He also conspicuously ignores certain stories, such as the unfolding saga over James Gray MP’s dubious expenses claims.

I never claimed he was non-partisan, but he is not a Tory.
He has an agenda, but I don’t believe that is narrowly constricted by party lines, and he’s far from ideologically a Tory.

I’d agree with that, but on the principle of “my enemy’s enemy is my friend” he is certainly a fellow traveller for the Tories.
